Unfortunately, here in little old New York, and I mean this literally
("old"), breastfed babies can show high lead levels (13-20 and higher)
bec. of lead contaminated Victorian buildings....
Of course its great that they are breastfed, bec. if they weren't they'd
have high lead levels AND not have the benefits of breastfeeding.
One family is going to have to spend heavy dollars to renovate their old
house that's full of lead contamination, their baby's lead level was 20.
The powers that be at the city level have mandated that they repair their
home. I wonder if they would take the child away if this wasn't done....
If the person who wants to write about lead wants to cover herself, she
might want to talk about ALL the dangers of lead contamination, but that
would not be strictly breastfeeding related. She could draw the
connection that formula fed babies who were exposed to lead would not
receive the benefits of breastmilk...It's not just the water thats a
problem, my friends.
Just my .02 cents.
