I am working with a mom who has been prescribed Biaxin by her doctor for a
severe recurring strep infection. Mom first took Biaxin when baby was 4
months old and told to pump and dump for 14 days. Baby ended up on bottle.
Several weeks ago, mom worked with baby using SNS, pumped to build supply, and
baby is now totally on breast again.

Mom has strep again. Baby is now 6 months old and eating solids. The
information I have (from Dr. Hale's 96 edition) states that azithromycin is a
better alternative from baby's viewpoint. Mom and doctor had discussed this
alternative, but doctor really wants her to take Biaxin.

Is there anything new on Biaxin or is it still contraindicated/cautioned
against while breastfeeding? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
