Thank you!
I wholeheartedly agree that the Ferber method is not a subsitute for human
response. It conveys the message, go ahead and cry, I will not respond to
your needs. In responding to a child's cry we teach them to comminicate
their needs, to trust us to respond to them and to gain confidence that
they
are capable of communicating. It also tells the child, I trust you to tell
me what you need. And most impotantly, you deserve to have your needs met.
To deny a preverbal human being a response to their cry is cruel and
damaging.
Believe ot or not, the book has circulated among the ex-pat parents here!
