Outdated? I think posture feeding (what we Americans lovingly refer to as the
"Australian hold") is a useful tool in many instances, just as all positions
are useful in certain situations.
With overactive letdown or abundant milk supply, it takes several feeds or
12-48 hours, before the mother feels enough relief by using the one-sided
nursing technique. In the meantime, posture feeding helps the baby feel
better about feeding.
All positions have their uses. Even "hands and knees" and "over-the-
shoulder". Then again, we each have our favorites. I know a nurse who thinks
the football hold is the answer to world peace :-D
