Hi Pat,
I know this is a strange idea, but a friend of mine had a case of
double mastitis with compounding engorgement so badly nothing was giving her
relief. The baby simply could not drain the breast enough to give any
comfort so she enlisted her husband. He "nursed" four times a day for two
days until the problem was gone.
I don't have any idea how you'd bring this up to a family, but it
does seem that if a little one can't do the job that a bigger one might... I
would think that in days of old that if someone was having a problem that
some baby swapping might have gone on to help remedy some situations --
Hand expression with lots of massage to the sinuses and ducts first
with warm washclothes over the area might be a substitute...

Anne,
who is now thinking maybe she should send this privately to avoid sounding
like a nut... ;)
