Groan what a day. First I volunteered to give lots of extra BF help to the
NICU manager's sister who was pregnant. She was supposed to have a nice
normal situation, you know, the odd sore nipple.....now ends up delivering
at 35 weeks, jaundiced baby who sleeps all the time....and although the
pumping is now producing nicely the baby is classic and falls asleep after
every 2 sucks...
Then I had another baby who fussed and fussed and fussed. When I finally
after 2 hours put my finger in his mouth he was chomping on it and pushing
it out with his tongue. Forgive my lack of experience - is this
disorganized suck? Any hints? Mom has huge breasts, flattish but not
inverted nipples, tries really hard. Baby (24 hours and counting) latched
once for about two minutes....
The DSS Mom has not called, I fear she did not get the baby back.
Good bit of the day - I got a Mom with brand new 33 week twins to put the 4
lb er to the breast and nurse - baby's first feeding experience. And I got
a formerly reluctant nurse to agree we will kangaroo a 2 lb baby next week.
Just a normal (rather long) day in the life of...
