At my hospital their is an individual who is claiming to be a consultant
due to the IBCLC certification. Many of our patients are being
encouraged to cup feed and pump with even slight reluctance to nurse.
When I took the educators course at UCLA I understood that to be down
the line as far as options to help with a relutant nurser. Also,
anyone who is going home with this option should be followed by a
consultant, am I correct. We have a neonatologist at our sight that has
nixed cup feeding in his unit totally - our Intensive Care Nursery Level
II. I know there is a cup feeding video out there, but at what point
should this be introduced and what should the follow-up be. What
population should use this type of feeding. Debby Aiton RN CCBE,LE
