Hi Lactnetters, and hopefully Jackie Glover, (author of paper
"Supplementation of Breastfeeding Newborns: A Flow Chart for Decision
Making" Journal of Human Lactation, June 1995, pages 127-131)
Our hospital is looking at appropriate reasons for supplementation,
reflecting BFHI's guidelines, and at a perinatal conference meeting, I was
caught off-guard when I was relating the stats for this study. In 6 years
the supplementation rates fell from 82% to 44% because of their effort to
reduce supplementation. A family doctor at this talk asked if the reduction
in postpartum hospital stays was calculated into this as this would probably
significantly squew the results. On reading this paper, I don't see an
explanation of the postpartum stay lengths. Can anyone help?
