I wanted to update everyone on a post I made last week. My geriatrics prof
made the statement in class that brfeeding was a risk factor for developing
osteoporosis and I posted this to the group asking for info. I received
several responses to that post for which I am grateful and which I passed
along to my prof. She was very receptive, having recently had and brfed her
first child at a relatively late point in life (she's 40ish). She is very
interested in seeing research on this and also wants to know if there's any
that addresses her situation of not brfeeding until midlife-is it as
protective and does it correlate directly to calcium intake in the diet.
Anyone who wants to e-mail me some references, I will be sharing them with her
at her request. She has even already shared with the class that I am going to
do this!

TIA,
Marsha Puckett, RN IBCLC
