Still following this mom; oxytocin question definitely ruled out. She is
now almost 7 weeks postpartum, frenulum was clipped before Christmas,
milk supply still very low and baby taking 20 oz/ formula a day. Test
weights last two days show baby getting 1 oz of milk from mom per
feeding. I had mom request a blood test for prolactin and thyroid levels,
and specified that prolactin needed to be drawn at baseline and rise.
RNP said that's "not the way we do it" and took only a baseline reading.
Results today: thyroid normal, prolactin (baseline, 2 hrs after last
feeding), *20*. The OB told her that this was normal also.

According to Lawrence, the average baseline level from 10-90 days is
60-110. If I'm reading this correctly, mom is WAY below normal right now.
We're looking at asking for metoclopramide (so far, OB hasn't
volunteered to prescribe it though mom mentioned it when she asked for
blood draw) as herbal galactogogues did not help, but I need to establish
with him first that her values are abnormal before we can pitch the meds.

If I'm wrong in my analysis here, I'd love additional input and/or
corrections. Any other suggestions?
