I am a bit behind on reading but did have a quick comment on the new catalogue
from The Natural Baby. I do not work in a hospital but have been called to
different ones in my area on several occasions
I arrive to moms in tears who have been given incorect info. or no info. on
breastfeeding. One mom was bleeding from both nipples and all the nurse could
say was that it happens sometimes.
I agree that there are some great IBCLC's in hospitals. Often a mom does not
get to see this person right after the birth (or prenatal) if the birth occurs
in the evening or on the weekend. Many (NOT ALL) nurses do not take the time
to help a new mom with the first nursing experiences. I have seen some nurse
try to push a breast into a babies mouth without any education on correct
positioning.

LLL does have many advantages to pregnant and breastfeeding moms that a
hospital setting does not offer. The main advantage is that everone has
breastfed at least one child and may have tips for the initial week of
nursing.

I agree with the statement quoted but would modify it to add, " or go to a
private breastfeeding practice to get information before you have your baby."
