In a message dated 97-12-16 21:00:02 EST, you write:
<urging of new moms to contact LLL written in Natural Baby Catalogue snipped
for bandwidth>
<< This catalog is owned by Jeanne Miller, I was all set to place an order
till I read the above statement. What do you all think? Im not very
happy with the statement she made. >>

What is it you object to? If new and prospective mothers shouldn't contact
LLL then who should they look to for support and information?

There ARE few hospitals (at least here in NYC, where budget cuts have trimmed
qualified LCs out of many) that do provide real support. When I gave birth to
my daughter in 1995 I received a morass of largely contradictory advice from
a hospital that was reputed to be supportive of breastfeeding. There was no
designated LC, and each nurse had her own -- er -- "facts" about breastfeeding
to share. They were fine with rooming in and not giving bottles against my
wishes, but I'm awfully glad I'd spent time educating myself about
breastfeeding because the information I got from them was unhelpful.

Ahhh..... I just read your second post on the subject. It's wonderful that
your hospital has a great program. You *should* feel proud of yourself and
your staff for having done something very right, and it would be a wonderful
world if that was the norm. Unfortunately, in many parts of the country (like
right here, for instance), it's not.

If you choose to write and complain to the catalogue about the comment, maybe
you can suggest that they rephrase it to read "It's helpful to learn about
breastfeeding before you give birth, and not all hospitals provide support for
breastfeeding mothers. You can find support and information at LLL.........."
It would be a shame to not help make moms aware that LLL exists and is here to
help them.
