I am about to pull my hair out! I am working with a mom in Orlando, Florida
that was put on Synthroid .05mg today and told to wean her baby right now.
This advice came from her personal doctor and was backed up by her baby's
pediatrician. Her pedi told her that since she has an underactive thyroid,
she is producing an "anti-thyroid antibody". The pedi also said that if she
did not wean, she would cause her baby to have "brain damage" I talked to
her about 5 minutes ago, and she (out of fear) has started the baby on
formula. Her baby is 7 months old, and nursing beautifully (her words).

I gave her the info out of the new BAB, which says that nursing is not
contraindicated. She doesn't know who to believe now. She said that until
she can talk to a pedi that says nursing is OK, or her pedi changes his
mind, she is too scared to nurse her baby. I did convince her to keep
pumping until we get all of this straight.

Is there someone out there in Orlando, Florida that can help this mom? She
wants to hear from other doctors.

Please send info on nursing with an underactive thyroid. We need the big
guns! This mom does not want to wean.
