Marie,
What a Great Service you are offering. Congratulations
The women I see during domiciliary visits, who have chosen to suppress
lactation, are usually at the stage you are talking about. There is often
marked oedema associated with the engorgement, especially if they
have tried to express without adequate knowledge of the process.
The most successful advice to give them at this stage is to kneel on all
fours in awarm to hot bath, breasts submerged, and allow the natural
drainage of milk to occur. This usually relieves them of just the right
amount of milk to provide relief but not enough to encourage refilling.
Damp hand-towels which have been frozen are then placed around the breasts
to further inhibit milk production.
This process can be repeated whenever the breasts become uncomfortable.
Some of the Chinese Mums swear by a recipe they use-something to do with
boiled wheat-sprout soup. I can look it up if you like but it is untested
as far as I know.
Hope this helps
Sue Ackland
