Just a comment on these charts (my own opinion of course). I think that
they can be useful for some moms after discharge from the hospital, esp. if
the mom comes in to see me and is concerned about baby "getting enough".
However, I also know for the majority of the women that I work with..this
would be just another thing to keep track of with a newborn, and they are
so very overwhelmed already. I feel that it is more important to teach
moms how to "see" if baby is effectively transferring milk. I also think
that we should spend lots more time building the mother's confidence in her
own body. "Normal" just has such a negative impact on the mom, if her baby
does not meet the guidelines....just my 02.
