dear all,
i agree that the feeling of the term breastfeeding is clinical and seems to
imply a relation to bottlefeeding, and that nursing has the nice feeling we
would rather convey about, well, you know, breastfeeding. around our house it
is called chi-chi (i pronounced like along e), because a family friend who is
hispanic told us that this is the slang for nursing. it works well as a code
word, and is now being abbreviated by the resident nurser as chi, sounds like
cheese.
now, i have long wished to collect the terms used by children and families for
nursing, er, breastfeeding, etc. if anyone feels inclined to email me a note
about what they use and why, etc., i would really appreciate it.
and who woulda thunk that north dakota is the center of the breastfeeding
universe?!?!? (just kidding, we all know it is cyberspace!)
