What is starflower oil?? To guess: Borago officinale or borage- seeds used to
make oil rich in essential fatty acids, and, apparently, not containing toxic
pyrrolizidine alkaloids(PA) - toxic PAs that do occur do so in low levels in
the other parts of the plant - one reads rather conservative cautions for bf
women to avoid borage because of this ( e.g. Herbal Industry organization ).
Seems a few pretty flowers in salad not of consequence however, and oil OK
(- avocado a top-rated source of essential fatty acids, by the way, and more
fun to eat than borage oil capsules.
Ginkgo - use of modern concentrates of ginkgo leaf would seem to be an open
question re: effect on lactation. Not aware of published reports of toxicity
during breastfeeding. Lactnet exclusive source of reports of lactogenic
effect from ginkgo ( 3 - check archives using the spelling ginkgo, not gingko)
in a variety of situations. Any updates??
