I would also bet that most hospital LCs are also expected to be RNs with
years of practice in breastfeeding counseling in one venue or another. I
expect that before long, IBCLC may also become a requirement, at least
for those without the RN or other health related professional degree.
And our official hospital LC's make less than I do. Their base rate is the
same as mine, adjusting for seniority at our institution, but they are
contracted for 20 hours a week, or less.
Once there are full-time LCs in the hospital, their annual income will
certainly be comfortable.
