In Australia,'posture feeding' simply means any position in which the
baby's head is positioned higher than the breast, so that he has to suck
'uphill', against gravity.  Most commonly it is done with mum lying back
and baby lying on top of her. Mum has to support the weight of baby's head
with a hand on the forehead, so his nose is not buried. I don't like it
very much, because it can be difficult to get good attachment in such an
awkward position. And I am not convinced it makes a lot of difference to
the flow rate. Some mothers reckon it helps fast flow problems.

The position described where baby is draped up-side-down over the mother's
shoulder is virtually unheard of here. People would laugh and look
incredulously at you if you suggested it. I wonder if this got labelled the
'Australian' hold because you lot in the northern hemisphere reckon we are
all up-side-down anyway!! ;-D
