I'm sorry - did I sound terribly sactimonious in my last post? - I didn't
mean to...
I've been talking with a social worker friend of mine. Events such as have
been described do, of course, happen in the UK - but generally the 'last
resort' following a whole series of difficulties within the family over a
period of time (often prior to pregnancy), generally including inadequate
understanding of the problems either because of intellectual difficulty on
parents' part or lack of communication/empathy on hp's part. (Which just
emphasises the importance of continuity of carer schemes!)
I suppose I'm trying to get to grips with the ins and outs of health care
provision in North America. How do Lactation Consultants fit into the
picture? Are you all self employed? Or are you employed by
hospitals/clinics?
(In return, if anybody wants to know about how NCT breastfeeding
counsellors operate...?)
all good wishes
Hannah
