This is from awhile ago since I've been nomail and just catching up. Also not
breastfeediing-related, but I couldn't resist. I was amazed that none of you
otherwise superbly-educated people knew what lard is. Perhaps I am showing my
age, since I don't think people use lard much anymore. Lard is neither Crisco
nor beef fat, but is pork fat. The reason I know is that, being Jewish, we
did not use it for that reason. I was even compelled to consult my dictionary
to make sure I was not ignorant of a secondary meaning. To quote the American
Heritage Dictionary, lard is "The white solid or semisolid rendered fat of a
hog". Beef fat is suet. Today's trivia, compliments of Miriam
