Studies of animals and humans have shown that garden sage is "rapidly"
effective against pilocarpine-induced sweating. Clinically, it has been used
against night sweats of tuberculosis and " sweating of psychogenic origin" (
not sure if author is really referring to hot flashes here or what! ) (info
from Bissett phytomedicines textbook 1994). Have read somewhere that mammary
glands are modified sweat glands.

However, none of these information sources discuss external application as
efficacious against sweating - all internal use. Have seen "health food-type"
deodorant with sage and always wondered if it really would do anything or was
just hype. One product recently added sage to their "deodorant" tea tree oil
formulation yet the company did not feel they could go so far as to claim
"anti-perspirant" on the label ( as I recall but could be wrong).
