I found a "nest" of posts on this topic in the Archives, September, week 5,
1997.

Mayonnaise, margarine, and rosemary oil were among the recommendations.
There was a caution about vaseline because of the steps someone took to get
it out of the hair.

If you check the Archives, scroll down to the lower case subject lines as
well as the caps.  There are about 6 posts in that week.
