My curly hair straightened significantly when I went on birth control pills
in my late teens. Some curl returned when I stopped taking them but my hair
straightened again during my several years of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It has only slightly returned although I last breastfed more than 12 years
ago. I have always suspected it was hormonal. I have never heard of it
working the other way though (ie gaining curls).
