I too have wondered about the wisdom of circumcizing such "new" baby boys. If
the baby is jaundiced as well, this seems to be a "double whammy." I suggest
to the moms whose babies are being circumcized, that they request the nursery
bring the baby back to them immediately after circumcision. Instead of having
them remain in their basinets, I have the moms hold them. I was hoping that
holding the baby close would encourage that skin-to-skin bonding that
stimulates prolactin and bf and doesn't send the baby boy on the downward
spiral of less feeding, more sleeping, higher bili, less feeding, etc. My
son was circumcized according to Jewish tradition and I hadn't thought about
circumcision relating to more than the vitamin K, but relating it to
breastfeeding makes a lot of sense. It might make an interesting study.
