Hi Jennie and all!
A question was posted to the list regarding the use of Dong Quai and
Astragalus during breastfeeding and pregnancy.
Although I find no indication that Astragalus would cause a problem during
either of these times, Dong Quai should absolutely be avoided in pregnancy.
 It has an extensive effect on hormone levels and cautions have been issued
about its use due to possible induction of spontaneous abortion.  (Better
safe than sorry!)  It is also still open for debate on its use in
breastfeeding, due to the effect on hormone levels, it is still being
researched regarding its effect on supply.
