Hi Wendy,
I think this mom will have to go see the gastroenterologist and see what
he has to say. I've never heard of an enzyme causing more reflux, and
it's
a little hard to swallow from an evolutionary perspective( pardon the
pun-I
couldn't resist). Occasionally we have given infants, who aren't thriving
as a result of extreme reflux, a little rice cereal, always believing that
the increased density of the food in their tummies helps them keep it
down--I'm not at all sure this is the correct reasoning but it does seem
to
work.
If this 12 month old does not have a weight gain problem, probably no
intervention is required.
If you find out what his research is showing please let us know. Often
science will blame breastmilk for some little problem, never acknowledging
the tremendous range of benefits breastmilk has over it's unpalatable
substitutes. Lucky she has you on her side to reminder that doctors are a
source of information, and have no right to tell her what to do.
