Evelyn,
Tell your daughter to get about 3 yards of material, at least 45 inches wide,
non-stretchy, and put it around her like a sling and tie a reef knot (one that
won't slip) that is placed in front of her shoulder.  Some health departments
make slings from 2 regular sized pillow cases.  You lay the pillow cases on
top of each other and sew up the ends to make a big tube.  I sew a double seam
when I make one of these.  These both work very well although they will not be
exactly what she is used to.
