Just a suggestion--When nursing my 3 and 2 year olds through my third
pregnancy, I found that retraining them to latch properly made a world of
difference in my nipple discomfort. Sometimes the kids get lazy and suck the
tip of the nipple into an almost closed mouth. Now when they want to nurse,
they open wide and put their tongues over the bottom teeth. My kids are
healthy and I wouldn't dream of weaning because of pregnancy--IMO its worth a
little discomfort once in awhile.
A question regarding dehydration--does anyone ever suggest that the moms
consume more water to pass to the newborns? Also, if babies are frantic when
removed from the breast, why not nurse more? I know moms (including myself)
who nurse for hours at each feeding the first 2 or 3 days ( and I do mean
hours).
