I have a question that our local lactation experts can't answer. A patient
of mine is about 9 weeks postpartum. She successfully nursed her first child
and is also nursing the most recent addition to her family. She tells me
that things were going well the first two or three weeks, when her left
breast began having decreased milk production as well as size. When I
examined her, her left side is considerably smaller than the right with fewer
milk glands palpable as well. She denies any medication use, trauma, or
infection. She is fairly knowledgeable and has contacted a number of
resources and tried a number of different ideas trying to solve this problem.
Any ideas as to cause or ways to help? Thanks to all in advance.
