When I was in Kenya, I visited an open air market when I have a few hours
off, and ended up being the only person in my group who happened to notice
a mother slide her scoop-necked dress down a bit in order to lift out one
breast for her (had to be) 10-11-month old to breastfeed. I smiled and
commented to one in our group who had walked by the same tableau without
paying any attention whatever. Obviously, my awareness showed more clearly
than words how unusual that would have been where I came from! It was
lovely seeing it so taken for granted by everyone. It simply was not a
"visible" activity for them as it was for me..... Would that we would get
to the same place in North America.... (am dreaming again)
