Hello all (but especially the docs!),
I've been asked by a colleague to find out about urokinase & its effect on
breastmilk. Mom of a newborn (<3 weeks, I believe) has to have urokinase
treatment for an intractable deep vein thrombosis. Has, of course, been told
at this point to pump & dump, for lack of any assurance that the drug is safe.
Does she need to dump? If so, for how long? What are risks if she
breastfeeds? Any? Will there be any effect on milk supply, etc.?
She's already been having supply problems, what with being in & out of the
hospital for the DVT already. Has been pumping pc to try to increase. So
having baby off breast will NOT be a good thing....
TIA!
