Maybe non-nutritive suckling has a role in the decrease in supply, but I
would bet more on a very simple though so much ignored fact of the life
of the working mother (me included, and from personal experience !): FATIGUE.
These moms are doing at least two jobs: the work, and the feeding of the
baby. And probably at least one of the following:

- making sure to pump discreetly, so that the "family life" does not
invade the "professional life",
- managing the home place (as in great husband "doing whatever you tell
me in the house, dear"),
- doing everything that needs to be done in the house, dear,
- taking care of other children, as a good mother does,
- etc, etc, etc...

Sounds familiar, anybody ?

And, sometimes, one has no choice. There is a great book on the market,
and it's title is "Two years without sleep". At least, it reassures the
mother that she is not a) alone, b) inadequate.

Sigh
