Tincture of Benzoin was used on the broken skin of cracked nipples for many
years and in major teaching hospitals in this country
and by most midwives in my experience It was the only thing which cleared
my daughter in laws cracked nipple when I visited her in Western Australia
a four hour plane ride from Victoria). What is wrong with using it when it
heals is so
helpful and does not cause any pain.

While there was a big rush to remove it from hospitals in l983 there was an
equally big rush to return to recommending it. I am not sure of the
research base which caused its withdrawal or its return.

What is the evidence against its use I would like to see how much rational
thought was given to banning it. Is it about the same story as banning
gentian
violet in this country.?
