In 1956 seven women were at a picnic in Illinois. They decided to have a
small informal meeting about breastfeeding. That was the beginning of
La Leche League International. The seven were: Mary Ann Cahill, Edwina
Froehlich, Mary Ann Kerwin, Viola Lennon, Marian Thompson, Betty Wagner
(now Spandikow), and Mary White. They are all still actively promoting
breastfeeding!
