I once spent 6 weeks in a hospital on IV penicillin and IV flagyl
(metronidazole). Megadoses of both. I was nursing a 2 1/2 year old at the
time, but only once a week while I was in the hospital.
The drugs killed every bug in my body, it seemed - my mouth even felt clean
without brushing! - and yet no one at the hospital ever mentioned the
possibility of yeast, I had no symptoms of yeast, and as far as I know came
home yeast-free. Are high concentrations of flagyl effective against
yeast? Or was the hospital grossly remiss in not asking about yeast
symptoms and was I ridiculously lucky in not having any?
