Our hospital provides a one-page information sheet for families, which
includes some safety information. The staff reviews some important points,
such as what the ID badges look like (mother-baby and L & D nurses have
badges that state "infant care giver"). We also place the crib on the side
of the bed away from the door. It is a tight fit and not at all easy to get
past the bed, much less take the crib out of the room. We have a tag system
to set off alarms, but the low-tech methods are really more important. I
must admit that many of the mother-baby nurses encourage moms to leave the
babies in the nursery at night, and encourage the moms to "rest".
