I spent about an hour in a medical school bookstore recently, and flipped through the pediatric texts to the sections on "breastfeeding." IMHO, the text edited by Frank Oski was the best of the bunch, but not all that great on BF: it warned that breastfeedings should be curtailed in length to prevent sore nipples. Generally, most had OK information on the quality of milk. However, how to make enough of it, or actually get this fluid out of mothers and into babies was mostly ignored or incorrect. I was struck by how much research-based, useful detail was presented on other subjects, which was a stark contrast to the paucity of research-based, correct and useful information on breastfeeding. Investigating this more thoroughly would be a very interesting research project, eh?

Three cheers again for those doctors who educate themselves on BF above and beyond what is/was provided in their formal education programs! Would that you could clone yourselves.....
