I think the "10%" expected drop and long time to regain (2-3 weeks) is a
function of our screwed up beliefs about "normal". BF, early, often and un
- interferred with, doesn't give these results. the reason we see it and
accept it, is that most moms don't nurse ad lib. They watch the clock or
listen to the misinformation from their HCP or "friends" or the lady in the
store. So 10% wt loss and 2-3 weeks to get back to birth weight are our
"norm". It sucks! or rather - the baby should! Think about babies in
planned home delivery situations. They hardly ever have a weight
loss/regain problem. What is "normal"? I wish we really knew. I just
don't believe it's 10% and 2-3 weeks to regain. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
