I have been nomail for a while so forgive me if this has been discussed
recently. I am working with a mom who is relactating. Long story, but
basically she was doing OK re-establishing her milk supply until she had her
first period. A number of other issues are undermining her efforts including
a jealous older sibling. Anyway, she is quite committed and is willing to
try anything and has asked me about medications that may increase her
supply. I told her what it says in the Breastfeeding Answer book. When she
asked her doctor, he said that the metoclopramide would cause uterine
cramping and that "she wouldn't like it" and that the "chlorpromazine"
wouldn't work if she had stopped nursing for more than 48 hours. I am a
fairly new leader and have had no experience with either one.
I am also doing an archive search. Anyone with information or experience
with these drugs or who has worked successfully to relactate could you
please e-mail me privately (or post, I am back on)? She is committed as I
said, but has little support at home and is reaching the end of her rope.
Thanks,
