Melissa:  I think that although there are "bad germs" in hospitals in
NICU, they are mostly a threat to patients there, not people passing
through, and I don't think there's any data to show that babies who come
with their mothers and stay in some waiting area (after all, it's unlikely
that the bigger baby has to stay by the incubator all day - if the mother
can have a support person with her, someone can keep the bigger baby
nearby in a waiting room while she goes into the actual NICU).  Remind her
also that her milk has specific antibodies to any germs she's exposed to,
so the bigger twin is likely protected as long as she nurses him.  I would
think that if she were able to nurse her bigger twin, that would help her
make more milk and decrease pumping time, so there are a lot of good
reasons to bring the baby with her.  Hope this helps.  Alicia.
