Becky, did you get an answer? From Herbs of Choice by Varro Tyler, PhD
there is the following: It is referred to as GBE, is made from the leaves
of ginkgo bilobaL, family Gingoaceae, and is currently widely prescribed
in Germany for peripheral vascular disease, particularly cerebral
circulatory disturbances and certain other peripheral arterial circulatory
disorders. Some of what is sold in Europe is grown in SCarolina, and an
acetone-water extract is prepared, dried and adjusted to a potency of 24 %
flavone glycosides and 6 percent terpenes. He continues: The therapeutic
effects of GBE are attributed to a mixture of these constituents, not to a
single chemical entity. Falvones of the rutin type reduce capillary
vessles. This tends to prevent ultra-structural brain damage. They also
function as free radical scavengers, tending to inhibit the lipid
peroxidation of cell membranes by inactivating free oxygen radicals.
Glycolides inhibit platelet-activating factor,(and this may be of
concern to a BF mother).
Side effects of GBE administration are neither numerous nor frequent. They
may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and allergic skin
reactions.
There's what I found. Probably not effective for memory. Increasing
blood flow to the brain by doing some yoga, and not having 101 things to do
at the same time would probably be a cheaper, and equally effective cure.
