Interesting to read the discussion about cord care. We stopped putting
anything on cords last year and kept a close eye on them for about six
months with midwives giving us feed back about any problems at home. We
have found that the cord stump separates more quickly , usually within
the first week. The stump does start to smell just before it comes off
but we have had no problems at all with infection. Women having second
and third babies are pleased to not have to fuss with the cord. The
change has been well accepted by all even those who were against the
change to start with.
