Dear Val

Having majored in education and given many papers lectures tutorials etc
over 15 years I still don/t think there is a magic answer for that kind of
behaviour.

However, some things have worked for me. I try to see this person as
probably attention seeking for some reason - pain or anger. I sometimes
find it helpful to look for a glimmer of an intelligent or correct remark
and give positive feedback like "that is an excellent point I had not
thought of that" which usually allows some silence for at least 20 minutes
if not for the whole hour.

Other wise I usually say that I realise that this person is having
difficulty and could you arrange to meet them at afternoon tea, lunch, ring
them at their office next day to see if I can meet there particular needs
as some of the audience has requested this repeat lecture. Or just
acknowledge that this is a repeat for them and excuse them from the
session.

Any other ideas anybody?

and so on.
