A mother with a two month old baby has been told to discontinue breastfeeding
because blood was found in the stool. Initially the mother was told to take
all dairy products out of her diet which she has done for the past six weeks.
The blood is still observed and a rash has been seen on the chest. The
birth weight was 6 lb, 10 oz, and is now 12 lb 4 oz even though the baby has
reflux. The mother states the baby
is happy, content, and shows no sign of distress. Further evaluations are
going to be done this week to rule out other causes besides breastfeeding.
Does anyone have any thoughts regarding this case.
