Dear netters, I am very concerned about the post that follows that I read on nicu-net. It seems that a "witch-hunt" could be started easily. I started to respond with ideas i.e. concepts of team work, education about lactation, etc, and point out that some MD's have also had dangerous outcomes of the patients they treated, but that does not mean that we blast all MD's. I would like to hear your responses and receive suggestions from you all before I respond. Of course, any and all of you who wish to respond yourselves - go for it!! I DO want to present ourselves as professionals and not lend credence to the negative attitude in their posts. Thanks for your input!!

I totally agree. It seems that the Lactation "experts" now have an
"attitude" that they know more about this than the docs and border on
practicing medicine (sometimes with dangerous & poor outcomes). I
always advise my patients to get their medical advice from me, their
pediatrician, not the lactation specialist. I have recently had to
admit two neonates that were in big time trouble but instead of calling
me, they were calling, talking and receiving advice from their lactation
specialist. Even when I would call them, they would "think" that
everything was "okay" because they had already talked with their
lactation specialist.
IMHO
