In the hospital where I work as a lactation consultant, mothers are
routinely asked not to breastfeed for several hours prior to their baby
boy's scheduled circumcision. Naturally, this results in many unhappy
babies and as many unhappy mothers, especially since the circumcisions
are often done later than originally planned. I feel like this policy
is probably unnecessary, ( in fact, at least one MD doesn't go along
with it), but I need some more scientific medical input before I
question it. Is there really any reason to withhold breastfeeding
before circumcision?
Thanks to any and all.
