I have seen this too, and it is very sad.  While most who experience the closeness that breastfeeding brings will treasure it, there are some who reject it.
I see many women who struggle with the thought of separation from the first child prior to the birth of the second.  It is as if they fear that the love they have for the one will not be enough for two.  The miracle of a second child (and subsequent) is that mother-love is multiplied, not shared.
