I have unfortunately lost the address (maybe there is someone out in
cyberland who knows) but Sharon Dore from McMaster hospital in Hamilton,
Ontario CAN did a large study on ~1800 newborns and cords.  This information
came out in Oct 96 and by now I'm sure there is a record of her study.  For
more information phone the NICU and ask where she can be contacted. The
study showed that air drying was more beneficial; cords separated faster -
alcohol caused increased granulation and no difference on infection rates
since most of the bacteria present is normal flora.
