I always thought of the australian hold as mom down under - the direction
of the baby depended on the reason for using that hold -

If for fast flow - baby could be in any position mom found comfortalbe.
if for plugged duct or mastitis, then the baby was positioned in such a way
that the chin went in the direction of the swollen, hardened or painful
area.

Some women with very soft breast tissue canīt bf this way as the breast
just flattens out not giving the baby much more than the nipple to hold
(ouch), but others find it works well -especially the c-birth mom who is
having the bad headaches due to spinal anesthesia.
